When it comes to work opportunities, London is usually considered the holy grail of high pay and quick progression.
However, research from job site CV-Library suggests that the capital might not be the shining star for job hunters any more, as it slips down to just 4th best in a list of the country’s best cities for opportunities.
The researchers compared the number of vacancies available in each city and the average salary they offer and discovered that Exeter should be on every jobseeker’s radar. The Devonshire city has seen a 25.6% increase in vacancies in May 2018 when compared to the same period last year, and a 4.1% increase in salaries.
Just behind Exeter is Liverpool, then Leicester, and then finally London.

Lee Biggins, Founder and Managing Director of CV-Library, said the results were very promising for jobseekers. “It’s clear from the data that businesses are ramping up their recruitment efforts as we approach the summer months,” he said. “And given the ongoing uncertainty in the UK right now, this is great to see.
